Design Considerations

Load direction

Direct pull, shear and peel have very different capacities. A stop or key should carry predictable side loads.

Target surface

Steel thickness, curvature, coating and cleanliness determine usable holding force.

Human factors

Grip, release force and pinch protection matter in frequently repositioned equipment.


Manufacturing and Assembly Notes

  • A tall load creates leverage that can peel the holder from steel.
  • Painted or thin sheet reduces force and may flex.
  • Metal chips on the face create an air gap and scratch the target.
  • Uncontrolled snap-on can injure operators or damage sensors.

Engineering Questions

Why is shear capacity lower than pull force?

Shear relies mainly on friction unless the design includes a mechanical stop.

How can removal be made easier?

Use a lever, handle or controlled peel geometry rather than pulling straight away.

Can holders be used on curved steel?

Only with a matching pole face or verified contact; line contact can reduce force substantially.

What should be inspected before reuse?

Cleanliness, coating damage, loose hardware, cracks and deformation of the working face.
